The Home Foundation was proud to support Ethan Ribalkin Mortgage Broker of VERICO Nova Financial Services, with our Dollar Match program, in RIDEON25, a fundraiser that directs 100% of proceeds to cancer research.

Mr. Ribalkin is a long time supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society having first participated in cycling fundraisers in 2017.

The Ride2Survive is very important to me because you can't be a living and breathing human being without being affected by cancer. Since I don't have the ability to cure the disease or come up with new treatments, I can cycle, raise money and put in the hands of people that can keep pushing towards better treatments and cures.

In my first year raising funds cycling for cancer, I was on day two of a big ride, kilometer 80 to about 110, and it was a bunch of uphill sections and I was gassed. This is back when we used to pedal from Langley to Seattle. At one point I hit a wall, my legs were killing me, and I wasn’t sure if I could continue.

I was leading a pack of strangers behind me, some were drafting on me to help them out, and all of a sudden I just lost it. I had nothing left in my legs, was going about 25 kilometers an hour, slowed down to eight. A guy pulled up beside me and said, hey man, don’t stop now, keep it going.

And I said, I’m struggling, I’ve lost the juice, my leg’s given out. Then he asked me, so who are you riding for? And I said, well I’m actually riding in memory of my friend Bob White, yourself. And he said, I’m riding for my wife.

I dedicated the remaining kilometers to Bob. And it was emotional.  When you do the ride. you see a lot of people who are survivors, you see people who have lost loved ones, and you see people coming together to do what we can to better the lives of everybody affected by cancer.

When I started training for the event, I did so in memory of my dear friend, Bob White, who fought bravely against Leukemia for many years, which I continue to this day. Since then I have had other loved ones face their own battles with cancer. I think of all of these people I deeply care about when I train and prepare for the event.

It has always been a wonderful experience to cross the finish line – and I am excited to continue to fundraise  for this important cause with the fantastic leadership of the Braniacs.

The Home Foundation is pleased to partner with Ethan Ribalkin in supporting his charitable efforts to help make a difference for the many lives touched by cancer
