Imagine a world where we can deliver much needed therapies deep inside the brain without the use of a scalpel to treat brain disorders that were once thought to be untreatable.

Now imagine it’s done using a painless ultrasound technique.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is a world leader in its exploration of harnessing the power of focused ultrasound (FUS) and are making groundbreaking advances, from discovery research, to technology development, to clinical trials.

These researchers were the first in the world to use Focused Ultrasound to demonstrate the safe delivery of an antibody therapy targeting tumours that spread to the brain from breast cancer completely non-invasively.

The Northwood Mortgage Charity Golf Tournament in Memory of Art Appelberg will advance support for the Weston Family Focused Ultrasound Initiative at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Proceeds from the golf tournament will support this ambitious $33-million initiative and will be matched by the Weston Family Foundation up to a maximum of $16.7 million.

What was impossible yesterday is now possible today thanks to donors.  The generous support of participants will help conduct groundbreaking research that benefits patients at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, across Canada and around the world.
